About me
Hello, my name is Peter Rowlands and I own P & M Photography. My interest in photography started in school way back in the 70s. After completing various courses in photography I setup my own darkroom in my parent’s basement. I would like to thank them for allowing me to commandeer their basement.
I’ve never been afraid to try new techniques; in my early days I enjoyed using lith film and experimenting with solarization and selective colour. Before the days of digital cameras and photoshop I would develop black and white photos and then selectively hand tint the colours back in, today it’s all done with a few clicks of a mouse. Four years ago I made the switch to digital, and in 2007 I finally took the plunge and started P & M Photography.
School Photographer
School photography comprises a large portion of my photography and I really enjoy it. One thing that really annoys me is when school photographers show no imagination. How many school photographers still use the old blue speckled backgrounds? This is something I refuse to use as it’s outdated and looks terrible.
Remembering my earlier days with film, I still like to do things differently and use different techniques whenever possible. Would you really want the same school photo of your child every year? They may look a year older but everything else is the same; the pose the expression and the uniform. Take a look at my schools photo page and see what you think, I would be glad to have your opinions good or bad so email me.
Studio Shoots
I opened up my first studio at Beechwood house in Newport in July 2009. This majestic building is set in the grounds of Beechwood park, a beautiful setting for photos, so you can either have your photograph taken in the studio or just outside the door within the expansive grounds.
Corporate Photographs
I also do corporate and commissioned work. The corporate work can include staff photos, product shots or even a company event. I sell fine art prints, but if you can’t find an image you like, why not commission me to go out and take the photo you want? This could then be printed on different materials fine quality photo paper, canvas, acrylic or even aluminium.
I look forward to seeing customer’s old and new at the new studio soon.
